At the tapping temperature, the gas content in the molten steel is much higher than the solubility of the gas in solid steel. Therefore, when the steel ingot is solidified, a large amount of gases such as hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon monoxide are precipitated. According to relevant data, the gas released during the solidification of a 1,200 kg steel ingot can reach 2-9 cm/100 g, and the gas released by a large steel ingot is even more impressive. It is generally believed that the common segregation stripes (A segregation and transition segregation) and porosity in steel ingots are closely related to the gas precipitation process. The gas that cannot be discharged from the ingot but cannot be dissolved into the steel exists in the steel ingot in the form of bubble defects.
